Why Intensity Matters When Choosing a PEMF Device

You may not realize it, but our bodies are electric, and the human body constantly uses electrical signals to function. These electric signals are required for us to communicate, think and move. Electrical signals from the brain travel to different parts of the body, or vice versa. Your heart requires electricity to keep beating and keep you alive. Elements in the human body, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, all have an electrical charge and our cells use these elements, also known as ions, to generate electricity. However, our cells aren’t always properly charged. When our cells aren’t properly charged, we are more prone to pain, sickness, disease, inflammation and other health issues. Research shows that PEMF improves cellular health, which in turn improves our bodies amazing ability to heal itself.

Depending on what tissues in the body we are targeting, higher intensity PEMFs are required in order to effectively target the cells in that area. If you research PEMF devices online, you’ll come across many companies and products that either claim to be the best PEMF system available or that say why their product is better than other pulse electromagnetic field therapy systems. What most consumers do not realize however is the many differences between the different PEMF products. Research tells us that the most important aspect of PEMF is the magnetic field intensity, which is typically measured in microTesla or gauss.

Thousands of studies have been conducted on PEMF systems using various frequencies to produce benefits. The majority of these studies were done using intensities ranging from 10 gauss to 1,000 gauss.

Most popular or low priced PEMF systems are low intensity devices that can only produce a maximum of 1 to 2 gauss. While that magnetic field intensity can be helpful for relaxation and improving circulation, it’s not strong enough to penetrate very far into the body. This is because the farther you are from the source of the magnetic field, the lower the strength will be.

If you Google “PEMF system”, you may see a list of PEMF devices that range in price from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. None of the products shown below are considered to be top tier PEMF devices since they are all low intensity systems.

Low intensity PEMF systems cannot penetrate at a cellular level as required for bone, heart, kidney, lungs, spinal cord, etc. The magnetic field waves need to be at a strong enough intensity in order to properly charge the cells.

PEMF therapy can be beneficial for many health issues, as listed below, but for most of these issues, high intensity PEMF will be required or much more effective.
